That One Bottle

by Aug 20, 2023Wine

We all have that one bottle we’ll remember for the rest of our lives, right?

If you don’t, you may not be trying hard enough.

Mine is a double magnum of Rimauresq cru classé Côtes de Provence and I’ll tell you for why.

It was a very kind present from friends given to celebrate my 50th birthday in the summer (yes, I know I don’t look old enough etc. etc.), just before we were due to go on a family holiday to Devon. It was duly packed into the car with the wetsuits, suncream and walking boots.

The day dawned bright and sunny, we prepared a picnic and together with my parents and many family members we picnicked on Branscombe Beach until the sun setting out to sea was the same colour as the rosé wine.

We ate a whole seatrout that I had cooked and cooled earlier, salads various, crusty bread, many cheeses and fresh luscious peaches, the juice of which dripped from our elbows as we ate.

The wine is 45% Grenache, 40% Cinsault, 15% Tibouren and is Organic, Vegan and produced sustainably. It’s a fine, dry and properly scented rosé, goes amazingly with fish and peaches, and if you can’t drink this on the beach, at least pretend that you are.

I will never forget that birthday picnic and that bottle of wine.
